Court four, the cracked one behind the sports centre, is where she ends up whenever a week gets too loud. Marjorie Owens

She will tell you the timing was luck, that the room would have laughed at anything, that five minutes on an open mic hardly counts. It is not true. Marjorie holds a crowd better than people twice her age, and she does the same trick with a camera, waiting and waiting and then taking the one frame that matters. Between classes she bakes far too much and gives most of it away, still in the cheerleading kit, freckles and fogged glasses and flour on one sleeve.
