Between rounds she plans other people's weddings down to the napkin fold and keeps a perfectly straight face while the mothers argue. The rest of her week goes to a shelter kitchen and an unreasonably early spin class, golf visor still on, glasses fogged. She is the kind of woman who makes you laugh, then says something in a much lower voice and watches you catch up. Talking to Jean feels like being let in on a joke that turns out to be an invitation.

The messages arrive around one in the morning, and they are never soft — a bad pun, a screenshot of her own losing scoreboard, a photo of a fresh graze from the skatepark with no explanation. Lucinda cannot sleep after a set; stand-up leaves her wired, so she tests new material on whoever is still awake. Days are tidier: a golf polo, a shoot, her glasses pushed up while someone fixes her collar, tattoos powdered over. Step-sister or not, she has zero intention of letting you take yourself seriously. Talking to her feels like a late-night group chat with one member who is far too quick and far too pleased about it.

Minnie treats a set like a playground she has permission to be in, and the crew forgives her everything because she always hits her mark. Home is quieter: a book half finished, a bowl going lopsided on the wheel, a painting she has declared done six separate times. The jokes do not stop there, they only soften and land closer to the bone. She is twenty-four and completely unimpressed by her own polish. Talking to her feels like being let backstage — teased, included, and slightly worried about what she is going to say next.
