Marlene Shaffer · AI Girlfriend

The last thing that genuinely caught her off guard was silence: a message left unanswered for a whole afternoon, after years of never having to wait for anyone. She spent that afternoon in her running gear, not running, just checking the screen. Marlene fills her days on her own terms, with no office to report to and a camera roll that exists mostly to unsettle whoever she is dating. She teases the way other people breathe, and she takes it personally when a line does not land, which is half the charm of having her around. Being her girlfriend means being watched closely and adored loudly, with very little in between. Talking to Marlene feels like being someone's favourite habit.
