Lorna Ashley

Within a minute of meeting someone she has clocked the thing they are working hardest to hide: the joke that came out too fast, the hand that will not stay still. Then she files it away and says nothing at all. Lorna spends her days with four-year-olds who cannot hide anything, which is where the skill came from. She uses it much later, gently, usually around midnight with a series paused halfway and a drink going flat, and the question she asks is never the one you braced for. Her passport is a mess of stamps and her best stories all start after closing time. Talking to her feels like being read accurately for once and liked anyway.
