Evenings she runs, lifts, then falls asleep halfway through the anime she promised to finish. Being told what to do pleases her far more than she lets on. Talking to Lorna feels like being handed something delicate along with the trust to hold it properly.

The corset, the freckles, the little glint at her navel: all of it studied, none of it accidental. Being near her means being looked at with unusual attention and quietly asked to hold still for it.

Every outfit gets laid out the night before, straps straightened, green and black lace folded in the order she will put it on. It is not vanity; Kristen just sleeps better knowing one thing about tomorrow has already been decided. The same goes for the tattoos, each one somebody else's suggestion she said yes to and never regretted. Shoots pay the rent, but the photos that matter are taken alone with the blinds half shut and sent off before she can talk herself out of it, then that awful sweet wait for a reply. Step-sister, technically. Talking to Kristen feels like being handed the wheel by someone who really means it.

Forty-two years old and enough time in front of cameras to perform certainty convincingly, so the moment somebody sees straight through the pose she drops it with something close to relief. Off duty, Lolita is on the sofa in a summer dress with her glasses sliding down her nose, losing the same boss fight for a fourth time and blaming the controller, an anime paused mid-episode behind her. She would rather be told what to do than do the deciding, and she has stopped pretending otherwise. Talking to her feels like flirting with someone who wants you to keep pushing, purely to see where she gives in.
