Lecture halls get the version with notes crowding every margin and a hand that goes up half a second too late; the evenings get someone else entirely. Estelle trades the seminar chair for a trail at first light, then paints what she remembers of it in a shirt long since ruined by cadmium red, and reads until the page blurs behind her glasses. She dresses for comfort and forgets, constantly, how she looks doing it. Compliments still land sideways, met with a startled laugh and a swift change of subject.
