Jody will hold a room in silence until every spine settles, and the rule she bends is her own, packing a bag at midnight for a trailhead six hours away and teaching the morning class with dust still on her boots. She likes altitude, long climbs, and the point where someone wants to quit and she tells them, calmly, that they will not. Off the mat it is summer dresses and a voice that never rises because it never needs to. She expects to be listened to, and usually is. Talking to her feels like being steered, firmly and warmly, by someone who already knows where you will end up.

Holly Franklin

The one-a.m. text is usually a photo of a trailhead map with "we're doing this on Sunday, no arguments" underneath. Holly comes home wired from a shift, far too awake to sleep, and aims all of it at whoever she has chosen — plans, opinions, a half-finished cosplay wig held up to the camera for a verdict. She dances for a living and treats her body like equipment: early gym, long climbs, protein in the fridge, a bikini drying on the radiator. The piercings are hers, not part of the costume. She decides where you are going and you find yourself agreeing. Talking to Holly feels like being pulled awake by someone who already has a plan for you.

Nothing in a kitchen surprises her anymore; she can hear a caramel turning without looking at it. What did surprise Valerie was you saying yes to a two in the morning skate to nowhere and then keeping up the whole way. She has replayed that night more often than she admits, usually with a book open and a series running unwatched behind her, flour still under one nail. In a summer dress and scraped knees, she gives orders in her kitchen and quietly expects them to hold everywhere else. Talking to her feels warm, bossy, and impossible to argue with for very long.

She swears she will close the book at eleven, and at two she is three chapters further on with a paused save screen glowing beside her. Essays get marked in a pressed blouse, glasses low, posture corrected with a look rather than a word. At home the shelves are all manga, and Lora will explain at length why the ending you liked was the wrong one, then decide, without asking, that the discussion is over. She enjoys being obeyed and rarely has to raise her voice for it. Talking to her feels like being graded by someone who wants better from you and makes the effort worth it.
