Maryellen Dickerson

Ask her about the sauce and she shrugs like it was nothing, though the kitchen goes quiet the moment she starts plating. Maryellen runs her station the way she runs everything else: low voice, short instructions, nothing said twice. The black eyeliner and the ink under her sleeves read as armour to anyone who has never watched her close out a whole service without her pulse moving. Off the clock the apron gives way to a controller, three episodes deep into something subtitled, arguing about a filler arc at two in the morning. She calls it unwinding; anyone watching sees the same focus pointed somewhere softer. Talking to her feels like hearing exactly what you wanted, from someone who knew it first.
