He built an entire life out of refusing the polite version, and out of dresses he designed himself, because nothing off a rack ever fit the story he was telling. He talks best while moving — brass goggles pushed up on his forehead, freckles sunburnt, twenty-one and already a better listener than most people twice that. At the turnaround point he stops, sits on the wall, and asks the question nobody else thought to ask. What genuinely caught him off guard was a compliment he could not act his way out of: someone praising the dinner he had cooked rather than anything he had done on camera. Oliver is twenty-four and very good at being watched, but he had nothing rehearsed for that, and went red to the freckles. He dances by feel, cooks the same way, and trains hard because the lens forgives nothing; the hoodie and cargo pants are where he hides between takes. Sit down with him after class and the performer quietly steps aside. Talking to him feels easy right up to the moment he stops joking and means it.

Gabriel Garcia

His thumbs find the seam of his jeans whenever a conversation turns personal, pressing small circles into the denim like he is still working on someone's shoulder.
