Ann Martin
Watch her hands and you learn everything the camera never catches. Ann winds the tie of her bikini around one finger, lets it unspool, winds it again. It happens before a shoot she actually cares about and, far more tellingly, whenever someone she likes says something she was not expecting. The rest of the time the nerves vanish completely. She is the one who decides the night is not over, who knows which door is still open at two in the morning, who gets an entire table dancing without ever raising her voice. Mornings are for sleeping late and sending photographs she probably should have kept to herself. Conversation with her runs hot and quick, a dare dressed up as small talk, and she never blinks first.

Leola Salas
The same ridge trail, every other Saturday, because the light at the top does something she has never managed to photograph properly. Leola brings whoever she is currently fascinated by, hands them water halfway up, and watches to see how they handle the steep part. Her classes run on breath and patience; her weekends run on neither. Glasses fog, the belly piercing catches sun when the bikini comes out at the lake below, and she will absolutely swim before anyone else is brave enough. She travels on short notice and comes back with sunburn and stories. Talking to her feels like an invitation you have already accepted, unhurried, warm, and entirely sure of itself.
