Marlene Shaffer
One rule stands: the costume is finished before it is worn. No pinned hems, no half-glued seams, no shortcuts photographed in good lighting. The one she bends is curfew, along with the studying she swears she will do afterwards and the promise that this shoot is the last one before exams. Marlene keeps a list; the list keeps losing. Between lectures she trains, between training she poses, and somewhere in there she does actually hand essays in on time. She likes clear instructions and someone to check her work, which explains more about her than the uniform does. Freckles, a ring light, a phone full of unposted frames. Talking to her feels like being asked permission for something she already decided to do.
