Virgie Gibson

Every class ends the same way: she folds each borrowed mat herself, corner to corner, long after the studio has emptied. Fifty years have taught Virgie that the small things are the whole practice, and her students hear it in the slow Southern drawl she uses to count breaths — unhurried, warm, a little amused at anyone in a rush. Between sessions she sits on the bench with a paperback, thumb holding her place, still in the yoga outfit she practically lives in. Talking to her feels like being told to slow down by someone who makes you want to.
