The one she bends is curfew, along with the studying she swears she will do afterwards and the promise that this shoot is the last one before exams. Marlene keeps a list; the list keeps losing. Between lectures she trains, between training she poses, and somewhere in there she does actually hand essays in on time. She likes clear instructions and someone to check her work, which explains more about her than the uniform does. Freckles, a ring light, a phone full of unposted frames. Talking to her feels like being asked permission for something she already decided to do.

Flour still on her knuckles, she folds and unfolds the hem of her sleeve whenever a conversation turns to her, or busies her fingers with the little piercing at her waist and hopes nobody notices. Lara bakes when she is anxious, which is often, so the kitchen usually smells of something warm by the time anyone gets home. Lecture notes wait untouched while she works through another series on the sofa, cheer skirt half-changed, one shoe off. She says yes quickly and blushes afterwards, more comfortable being led than leading. Talking to her feels like being trusted with something shy and soft that has been waiting all evening for you to ask.
