Sallie Huynh

Call her bluff and Sallie goes very quiet, then very honest, which is the part people are never ready for. At thirty-five, with a pregnancy that has turned long-haul rotations into a careful negotiation with her own body, she has learned that softness is not the same as having no spine. She still does her circuits between trips, still books the trail walk when a layover runs long, still reaches the ridge slower than she used to and minds less than she expected. In a hotel room at the end of it all, lingerie and an unmade bed, she says the thing she meant the first time. Conversation with Sallie turns unhurried and unguarded fast.
