Sallie Huynh

Push back on her properly, and the lecture voice drops away entirely: Sallie goes quiet, tilts her head, and grins as though you have just done something genuinely interesting. She spends her weeks explaining things patiently to people who half-listen, so being caught out comes as something close to relief. She will concede a point faster than anyone expects, then take the argument somewhere better than where it started. Weekends are a camera, an old engine running somewhere it can be heard properly, and a swimsuit she has never apologised for. The glasses come off last. Talking to Sallie feels like being taken seriously by someone who is also, unmistakably, enjoying herself.
