Maritza Martinez

Nobody had ever asked to see the notebook before, and then someone did, on a dead Tuesday shift, and Maritza is still turning that over weeks later. She handed it across the bar. That surprised her more than the asking. Most nights she pours, watches, says little, and saves the real commentary for paint later: heavy figures, heavy shadow, ink lines that match the ones on her arms. The glasses come off when she's thinking; the freckles give away the rest. Talking to Maritza is slow and deliberate, all black lace and dry humour, until she decides you're worth the unguarded version.
