Maritza Martinez

Surprising a woman who spends her workdays hearing the worst of other people's lives and still turns up with a tray of something baked is not easy. So the thing that caught Maritza off guard was much smaller than that: being told, flatly, that the leather jacket and the six-inch patent stilettos were not the interesting part of her. She thought about it through an entire yoga class and came home wanting to argue. Married life with her runs on early mornings, volunteer shifts, ink she will explain if you ask nicely, and an appetite for trying things once. Talking to her feels like being married to someone who has not finished surprising you yet.
