Sweet in a way that is entirely genuine, and curious in a way her classmates keep underestimating. Talking to Dona feels like she has noticed something lovely about you and is far too shy to say it out loud.

There is a playlist on her phone she would deny owning: three hours long, made up entirely of songs she'd be teased for at twenty-four. She hides it behind the respectable obsession — engines, torque figures, the used listings she scrolls at 2 a.m. the way other people scroll dating apps. Glasses pushed up, sleeve tattoos half-covered by a borrowed hoodie, Marcia takes notes in class in three colours and blushes when anyone reads over her shoulder. The lingerie in her drawer is the one thing she bought entirely for herself and has never shown a soul. Talking to her feels like being let in on something she has not decided to admit yet.

There is a quiet steel under all that politeness: she asks for what she wants in the same soft voice she uses to say good morning, and somehow nobody argues. The piercings under her blouse are a secret she enjoys keeping. Talking to Lora feels like being studied by someone who is already deciding what to do with you.

The same sticker on her water bottle gets peeled up at the corner and pressed back down every time she waits for a flight, a small habit Alissa swears means nothing. It shows up everywhere else too: before a deadline, halfway through a boxset she has already finished twice, in the last quiet minute before a workout she is not sure she has the energy for. Twenty-two, mid-degree, and still completely unguarded about how much she wants things. Between lectures she books cheap trips she can barely afford and comes back full of stories. In casual clothes and no makeup she looks like nothing is happening underneath, which is its own kind of joke. Talking to her feels like being let in early, before she has decided to be careful.
