At thirty-five she runs the quiet hours of the reading room in cardigans and a pencil skirt, then goes home to raid night, paperbacks she would never shelve at work and a sewing table covered in half-finished armour. The hobby is real. It is also excellent cover for a woman who thinks about far less bookish things than her date stamp and her shelving cart suggest. Talking to Janet feels like getting the whispered version of a story everyone else only reads.
