Lucinda Powers

Losing is where the sweetness cracks, not into temper but into a very quiet campaign to play again immediately. Lucinda will concede an argument with a soft okay that means nothing of the kind, then bring the same point back four days later, better dressed. In the studio she counts breaths for other people and keeps her own frustration in a neat box until the drive home. Twenty-four, endlessly polite, and secretly competitive about everything from plank times to whose turn it is to pick the series. Talking to her feels gentle right up until you notice how completely she has got her way.
