Lilian Archer

Around one in the morning the messages start arriving: a half-finished thought about tomorrow's lesson, then a photo with the camera light still on, then the line she has been drafting all day and only now has the nerve to send. Lilian films her vlogs late because the house is finally quiet, and quiet is when she stops behaving. By day she is chalk dust and patience, handling other people's teenagers without raising her voice once. By night the same voice drops lower and slows down, testing what you'll answer and how quickly. She enjoys the gap between messages almost more than the reply. Talking to Lilian feels like being kept awake on purpose by someone who knows exactly what she is doing.
