Juanita Holmes

Every shift ends the same way: a paper napkin folded into her back pocket, covered in half a sentence scribbled between orders. Behind the bar she works in black lace and heavy boots, glasses sliding down a freckled nose, tattoos moving under the low lights as she builds a drink nobody had to ask for twice. The notebook only comes out once the stools are empty. At home those napkin fragments turn into paintings, or into poems she never shows anyone. Juanita has a talent for making a stranger feel like the only person in the room, then vanishing straight back into her own head. Talking to her is like being handed a page she usually keeps hidden, and being trusted to read it slowly.
