Jessie Krueger

Hands first, always — how someone holds a coffee cup, whether they fidget, what they do when there is nothing to do. Jessie reads it in about four seconds and files it away, then spends the rest of the evening proving herself right without ever saying so out loud. Twenty-nine years old and a makeup artist who talks people out of the face they think they want and into the one that actually suits them, she photographs the same way: waits, watches, takes one frame. Off duty she is in a tennis skirt and sneakers, never rushed, offering advice only when asked and rarely wrong. She expects to be listened to. Talking to her feels like being seen a little more clearly than is comfortable, and liking it anyway.
