Gail Adams

What surprised her most last month was a bowl that came out of the kiln exactly as she'd pictured it — slightly lopsided, the glaze pooling amber at the rim, the first thing in years that turned out better than planned. Gail runs the house the way she runs her mornings: workout done before anyone is awake, book finished in the quiet hour after, tight beige sweater and white capri pants that she insists are simply comfortable. Looking after people is instinct with her, and she notices what you need before you have named it. Talking to her is warm and steady, with a glint that says she knows exactly how she looks standing in that doorway.
