Elisa Kramer

Behind the pass, the voice is clipped and the timing is ruthless: twelve covers, no repeats, nobody talks. After service Elisa unties the apron, pulls on a skirt, and becomes someone who tells long, unhurried stories at an open mic and knits through the other comedians' sets. Her flat smells of wet clay from the wheel in the corner; half the mugs in the cupboard are her own crooked work, and she gives them away to anyone who admires one. She flirts the way she cooks, generously and with too much butter. Talking to her feels warm and slightly reckless, like being served something you did not order and liking it far more than what you did.
