Elisa Booth

Whenever a conversation turns serious, something ends up in her hands: a loose thread on a cuff, a bracelet clasp, the corner of a worksheet creased and uncreased until the paper softens. Elisa picked the habit up in front of thirty children and never unlearned it, and it only shows when she cares how the next sentence lands. Her weekends undo the knot. A trail she knows by heart, a morning workout she counts through under her breath, an evening of glue and mismatched fabric that turns something broken into something better than new. She notices you skipped a meal before you mention it. Talking to her feels like being looked after by someone who makes it seem like your own idea.
