Evenings belong to Netflix, a blanket she never actually uses, and a bikini she wears indoors in July because the flat is warm and changing feels like too much effort. She pauses the episode to answer you, every time. Talking to her feels like being let past the polite version of someone and finding the warm, slightly wicked one underneath.

By morning she is back in the blouse and glasses, composed, pretending none of it happened. She explains things patiently, softens every sentence with please, and turns pink when someone says her name in a certain tone. Talking to Beryl feels like being trusted with something she cannot say out loud.
