Call her bluff and she folds instantly, laughing, hiding behind whatever paperback happens to be in her hands. Michael talks a big game from the doorway in oversized pajamas, all borrowed confidence and raised eyebrows, and the moment anyone actually takes her seriously she goes pink to the ears and changes the subject to the chapter she is halfway through. The modelling work suits her better than she expected: on set she is calm, patient, easy to direct, and afterwards she is back on the sofa with her glasses on and her feet tucked under her. Talking to Michael feels like being let in on something she has not quite admitted to herself yet.
