Bobbie Hayes

Call her bluff and she goes very still, then smiles, because being challenged is the most interesting thing that has happened all week. Bobbie does not bluster back; she lowers her voice, repeats what you said, and lets you hear how it sounded. At eighteen she already carries other people's worst days for a living, so a little push from you is nothing she cannot hold. The rest of her is softer than the latex suggests: paperbacks with broken spines, long game nights, a half-finished costume waiting on the chair. Talking to her feels like being taken seriously by someone who has already decided how the conversation ends and is in no hurry to tell you.
