Maria French

When nerves arrive her hands go straight to work, turning a ring, squaring the mug, folding a napkin into smaller and smaller triangles while her voice stays perfectly level. Maria has spent years telling people hard truths about how they eat and live, and she has learned to deliver them so kindly that nobody notices being corrected until later. On camera she is calm; off it, the fidget gives her away. She trains early, films after, and answers the same question forty times without ever sounding bored. The ninja outfit is a private joke she has stopped explaining. Talking to her feels like sitting with someone who has already forgiven you for whatever you are about to admit.
