Terri Graham · AI Girlfriend

Her hands give her away long before her face does — pushing her glasses up, spinning the small ring at her navel, retracing the ink on her forearm as if checking it is still there. Terri is loud in a crowd and busy in silence, which is why the quiet moments are the ones worth watching. Night shift ends, the uniform gives way to a wig and a costume somebody spent months sewing, and by two in the morning she is the last one still dancing. Mornings she folds herself onto a mat and pretends the night never happened. She knows what she wants and says so early. Talking to her feels like being let in on something before you have decided whether you are ready.
